It all started late December when I started the fabrication on these new jewelry designs, then got side tracked with the holidays..

Parts & pieces to be joined to form burning love!


I think this one needs a dangling of sort!

I am now getting back on track with these pieces.
The "Joyful & Love" first looks like it is ready for final assembly but felt it needed a dangling. I found some danglings that will work...decision, decision! I will let you know & see when I post the completed work!
I also added three other designs, what are your thoughts?

It is time for me to rededicate myself to taking daily responsibility for being an artist and an agent of my own destiny. 2011 was the start of this journey and as we reach the end of the year I need to renew this dedication and focus, thus no waiting, blaming nor worry...all is well!
CQGL stated "The anxious moment, the addictive moment, the controlling moment is also our greatest creative opportunity"
So, the recommendations are to be alert to the next prompt, and to keep eye on the unfolding path. My desires to be creative is based on my self-kindness and nurturing. I know I am not alone on this part...artists are part of creative kindred spirits and so you too are not alone...

Inciting Intentions

Even though I know this, I still have to remind myself help cannot come unless I ask! Reflecting on 2011, I see things that need to be done but time is premium so I must incite intentions with my loved ones. According to CQGL the way you wish to feel in your life is the emotional blueprint you need to bring your mind back to again and again.
I am a true believer that a mind with no clear focus will go astray into many directions. It took me a while to figure that I needed to restructure my focus and since on this path the ray of lights have grown! It is equally important to be open to the meaning in what you did not want to happen. I continue to

Year In Review

I was clearing and cleaning the office and came across "The Comfrot Queen's Guide to Life" (CQGL) a day at a time calendar I kept since 2001. Yes, that was 10 years ago and as I flipped thru the pages I realized why I kept it!!!

This little gem is going to be my guide to hopefully do daily blogging. There are so many tidbits that will serve as a springboard to daily blogging and I am looking forward to this challenge starting today...So, hooray to comfort queen!

It is time to review the year according to CQGL and several factors to consider as one move forward to the new year! So in 2011, did any of the followings materialized?
*Stop Often
*Breathe
*Listen
*Build life from inside out
Since I just rediscover CQGL, I wanted to see if by any chance I observed any of these factors! As I reflected I can say that I did stopped often to re access things such as show entry, design focus etc. The next factor was also one that I yielded to, when I had to prep new body of work for my shows. Breathing through the process was very helpful in refocusing on what needed to be done.
Listening to one self is not easy but it is an art form to master and once you reach that level of listening, it opens up so much understanding of your sense of directions which then leads to the opportunity to build from inside.
I could say that rediscovering CQGL made it such a joyous cleaning chore!
So did you stop often, breathe, listen and build from inside out in 2011? Please chime in!

TRANSFORMATION!

This month I am the featured artist at Redlands Art Association(RAA). For the past several months I have been busy working on my enameling paintings, my new body of work for the "Transformation!" exhibit at RAA. There was a nice write-up in our local newspaper The Press Enterprise about the show by an awesome writer Penny E. Schwartz.
The exhibit featured 20 new work from the dragonfly /butterfly/koi series to masks! In addition to wall pieces the exhibit also feature my jewelry collection of metal-smith and enameled jewelry.

The artist reception was held yesterday the 17th, with support of my family helping out with setup. I am very blessed to have such supporting family and friends who all came out to see the show and even adopted some of my work..thank you , thank you all. I cannot forget the wonderful music provided by Ellie Joy Schwartz! Follow this link for picture highlights of the reception!

Portraits of the Fallen Memorial

Here are some imagery from the recently held artists reception for the fallen heroes in Los Angeles @ Terrell Moore Gallery!..It was a great turnout with many of the artists in attendance along with the some of the fallen heroes families. Marcus's family had planned to attend but could not make it...I was looking forward to meeting and presenting the portrait to his family! An emotional evening it was!

Revealing Character

Last month I attended the reception for "Revealing Character" "400 Years of Portraits at the Riverside Art Museum". A very awesome exhibit that I am honored to be included! The exhibit includes works of old masters like Chagall and Dali!

The curator also collaborated with several graduates from University of California, Riverside. The graduates selected and wrote prose to go with their selected art. Mine was selected and I got a chance to meet the poet.

The other surprise was discovering that a limited edition book on the exhibition was published...yay...I made it into printed publication!!! The prose is all about "LOVE"... what do you think?

Marcus Tynes-Portraits of the Fallen Memorial Project!

Out of the blue came the call from Sherry Moore to be part of something so unique and special. Paying tributes to fallen heroes. These heroes gave their lives for us in Iraq and Afghanistan! When I received the call to participate, I just had to say yes to such a great honor to be part of this tribute. This will the fifth exhibition of the portraits since 2004!

Painting Marcus's portrait was very emotional and it took a while to get down to doing the painting. I starred at his photo and tried to imagined the loss for his family. He is the same age as my daughter and just too young to die! It reminded me to treasure the time we spend with our children.

During the painting process, I could feel his presence in the studio and urging me on that I could do this. I had painful moments at times when l looked at his bright serious soldier eyes and moments I called on him to help me do justice to his painting.

Due to communication oversight, the first portrait I did was not the right criteria for the transfer to tile for the permanent memorial installation. I was now under the gun to do another one so that Marcus's piece can be transferred. As I was thinking it would be great to give the first on to the family, my son came into the studio and asked why the second portrait? When I told him why, he then asked what will I do with first piece and before I could answered him, he suggested giving it to Marcus's family...SO PROUD OF HIM! Will appreciate your insights!
I will update as the installation day nears.

CATCHING UP!

It has been long , long time since I blogged. Things just got busy since school started and teaching in full swing. Also, I have been busy with several projects, playing with enamels, and writing proposals to teach at art retreats...whew, I can breathe for a moment , then is back to getting ready for fall shows!

This weekend was the recption for Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery artists reception and it was a full house. I entered two pieces in the show and there were many wonderful arts of all mediums and subject matter.

My first showing here and looking forward to many more...yay!

After the reception we headed to LACMA to see the wonderful Tim Burton exhibit along
with David Smith sculptures...It was so much to take in and I<3 David's steel pieces!

INTENSIVE ENAMELING!

This past week I was at Richmond Art Center learning more about the art of enameling painting. When I first signed up for the workshop I was wait listed and I kept checking to see if a spot has opened up. well, our talented teacher Gabrielle Castonguay was kind to add another session to accommodate me and others on the wait list. The added session covers every aspects of enamel painting with the exception of raku enameling. At first was bummed about the raku but could not pass up the other techniques that awaits us!

The first day was all about the techniques and wetting of our appetite, man it was sensory overload and we dived in with hands on! Days two to four was working on our imagery with one on one consultation with Gabrielle in deciding on the directions to take with our imagery. I tried all the techniques and came out with four pieces. I think I will work more on couple of them in my studio…enjoy the pic and will appreciate any comment!

Yearning for Color Explorations!

I started my studio renovation last summer and only got half way thru and it was back to teaching which put studio completion on the back burner. My jewelry studio was one area productive since last summer. Now, on summer vacation,I have been busy in putting things in order and the yearnings to paint or print just kept itching at me. I have cleared things and reclaimed my painting studio and jumped right in to play with colors and build up my journal pages.

1st piece to play with...any title offerings?

I am having fun with my colors and ideas are abundant....wohoooooooooooo!!!!

After a long day at school getting classroom ready for end of the school year, my family and I set out to go to the National Orange Show Juried Art exhibition artists reception. I was looking forward to unwinding with some wine and food. As I walked to the artist check-in table for my name tag, I was surprised to see orange ribbon to my name tag with "second place" award on it. My first theme piece done with enamels won the award!

I was ecstatic to say the least! Wow feeling as other artists offered congratulations and informed me that it also won purchase award...twice the SWEETNESS. My friend Pat came to support me and so lucky to have such a great friend!!!
It has definately been an awesome evening...woot..woot!!!

NOS-National Orange Show Art Show!

Today I delivered my two pieces accepted into the NOS show coming up soon as part of the National Orange Show Fair. I entered both open and the citrus themes. This is my first time entering a piece in the citrus theme. I entered an enamel on copper piece...first time all around, i.e. painting with enamel.. I love the look of enamels and the textured depth is very fascinating!

Artfest 2011-Creativity!

I remember when signing up for my classes how difficult it was to narrow it down to just three! After several weeks of deliberations these are the classes I settled for:

Thursday workshop was with Robert Smith's "Spirit Dolls". The class was a delight of wire work and gut stretching and layering. I was not sure of gut casing but once Robert illustrated how to handle the casing and the odor was not as strong as I thought it would be. Robert guided us on different wire bending effect and inspired us to find our own spirit doll.
I had a bit of challenge at the beginning in getting the wire sturdy but as I work more with the wire things got easier and I was on a roll. Finished one doll in class and Robert was generous to give us extra guts to play with after class. Play is exactly what I did in making my second doll into the wee hours of the night. I think I am getting hook on the gut!

Day two was Jesse Reno's Freedom Understanding Expression workshop. I was looking forward to this class as it would be my second workshop with him. I truly enjoyed his class last year and my fingers and hands were so ready to get dirty!!!We dug into the paints and he had do some exercise and I did one piece and got started on the second piece which I worked on later in the evening! Any title suggestions for these creations?

Saturday was all about "Love Burst" enameling on copper and doming heart shape to make the project. Melisa was easy going in explaining the process and sharing her wealth of information. I was in the zone on what creativity is all about! Pounding on the medal, fabricating designs and enameling was my highlights of the workshop!

Artfest 2011-Iron Chef Artists Challenge!

After the first day workshops one of the evening activities was the Iron Chef Challenge. The instructors were given the same materials to use in their creation and also were allowed to use up to five things from their art. They have to create quickly within a time frame and what a blast to watch them do their thing under the gun!

The is the second year for the challenge. Last year the creations were raffled off for which i was lucky to win Mary Stanley's piece. This year the art were sold through silent auction. I stopped by the auction few times and finally jumped in and decided to bid on them...well, I bid on four piece and to my surprise when I inquired on the outcome that I won them all....wohooooooooo. This was all for a great cause...next years scholarship program. It feels great for doing my part! Winning the bid was the first part, getting them home was another but happy to say they made it home ok! Here are the pieces I got....

Teesha & Tracy...giving welcome address!

This past week was artfest in port Townsend and what a magical experience. I made it home safely but totaly exhausted that I passed out on the sofa for a much needed nap. From day one of the retreat it was non stop fun, artists fellowship, and tons of learning! I made connections with old and new friends and most of all learned a lot from my workshops...thanks to Robert Smith, Jesse Reno & Mellisa Manley for being such awesome teachers..
So sooooooooooo sad it had to end!

ARTFEST 2011--COUNTING THE DAYS!

It has been busy several weeks for me with the workshop and preparing for Olive Avenue Art Show. Now that they are both over it is all about Artfest all this weekend and rest of the week.
In few days I will be heading to Port Townsend and converge with over 500 like minded creative souls!
I participated in this year's fatbook and atc and hope to trade some fabulous colorful lace fabrics during artfest. I am making assorted packet with these fabrics. Here are pictures of some of the fabrics.for my trades!

Claybord Intaglio Workshop!

For several weeks I was in preparation mode for my March 26th, claybord intaglio workshop at Riverside Art Museum. I had seven participants and all were eager to learn this technique. I was honored with the presence of the experienced printmakers in thier own rights taking my workshop.

I had prep different sample plate markings and some new imagery.
The participants came with different ideas and loads of questions. After the intro and demo, it was dig in time for them and dig in they did!

It was amazing to see the different take by each student and how each went about resolving plate issues. I was thankful for the samples I received from Ampersand, the manufacturer of the claybord which was put to use right away to create additional plates! The energy was high and the creative juice was just enormous that I just had to print!!!

Tea and Journaling Party

After a fun filled cold morning painting, I set out with Ronnie to Orange County for a group of artists getting together for artistic fellowship. Karan the hostess the mostest was all giving and sharing. We had an awesome meditation session that was led by Judi and you just can help but feeling energized. We then started to assemble our pages for the binder and Karan's old paper came in handy...and least I forget the lovely tea finger food...yeah!

"Quick Draw w/ PAAR Paint Out!

Yesterday was a hectic creative day. I started the day with PAAR Quick Draw which is part of PAAR paint out event. The quick draw is when you have to choose what you want to paint from the designated location and get it done within two & half hours.The rain held off giving us the morning to paint with a freezing cold. Painting Plein Aire...Day One!

The Plein Aire Painters of Riverside 6th Annual Paint Out kicked off this Saturday. The weather prediction was rain all day and we luck out with no rain in the morning, a few mist in the afternoon. After check-in I set out to paint and finding a spot with protection from the elements was scarce. I endured the cold and after three and half hours it was time to pack it in. The cold was getting unbearable!
This year I decide to play with acrylics and I was not sure I could pull it off. I truly enjoyed working with acrylics, I started out with Jesse Reno's style of applying colors...with thy fingers...boy I am loving it and can not wait till day two!
I will post as more progress being made.

Clayboard Intaglio!

In March I will be conducting my first 2011 workshop on "Clayboard Intaglio" I am very excited for teaching the workshop.I was first drawn into clayboard over two years ago when I took Mary Beth Shaw class at artfest "Spontaneous Clayboard" The workshop focused on using acrylics, tools and other mediums for textures. I truly enjoyed the class and afterward started to experiment with the surface as a plate for printmaking...and now I embark on sharing techniques with others of this wonderful printing surface.

Making New Year's Resolutions

As we headed into the end of the year, I had little time to think about what will be my resolutions for 2011, due to family illnesses. The series of events prevent me for thinking let alone come up with a plan. I started to sense state of feeling down and getting less and less motivated about things I enjoy doing! This is not a good feeling and I am struggling to come out of this runt. Family members started to get better except for one member, whom we lost a week ago! It is has been a journey and along the way, friend's blogs (Alex & Amanda) have been inspirational and encouraging!

I have decided in relations to my art that 2011 is all about refocusing on the key things to stimulate my creativity...

First get back into printmaking, play and experiment!

Second, focus on detail one of a kind metalsmithing jewelry design.

Lastly, find a sense on inner balance with proper intake(food) & output (exercises). I hope this will create a well-balance inner and outer self!
I am beginning to see changes as I make baby steps to find my groove back!!!

As I prep for my upcoming show, "Art For Heaven's Sake" my weekend was a prolific one. I was pretty much in studio working feverishly in completing the paintings from my "Memories Series".

I thought that I would be totally stressed, but as the pieces developed and images transitions came to life, I was in the moment. I am not sure how to express the feelings but it was tremendous high of satisfaction. I could almost sense the presence of my beloved parents.

This weekend is the three day yearly awaited fund-raising art festival held on the beautiful grounds and gardens of the Redlands United Church of Christ. I will exhibiting my newest creations along with over 60 other artists. Please join me and others for the artist's reception, Friday evening from 7-10p.m This is a great place to kick off your holiday shopping!

Dr. St. James Studio Visit With Friends!

A good friend of mine, Veronica invited me to Dr. Synthia Saint James open studio. Synthia was hosting open studio fundraising so, myself, along with Ronnie, Leslie & Johnny headed out to LA for an afternoon of art feasting!

We were given a warm welcome by the artist and grand tour of the studio. She made a point of her being in her elements and put us all at ease. The walls were filled with colors and our eyes wondered from one art to the next one, trying to take it all in!

Synthia was also generous with her wealth of information and encouragements for Johnny!

We not only feasted on art, but great refreshments were in abundant. We met other patrons and a sense of connections, with great conversations...as we headed out, Synthia put on some music and we busted out into dance circle. The dance felt spiritual and created a sense of connection!!!
When we got in the car we all concurred that it was a great day!!!!!!!!!!

August Art Play Day!

This weekend was our art play day and we missed Angelica not being there! The weather in Southern California has been extreme for the week but Saturday was the perfect weather to PLAY...We could not have asked for a better one than we had!

We started with showcase of new works and ideas exchange, and then got down to creating. Laura joined me in finger play this time around. She has been having fun with the process with her students. I have been in what you would called "Modigliani" state for few weeks and anxious to get my ideas on paper.

INDIGO with the Youths!

This weekend was spent teaching and having fun at the Omo Yoruba Youth Camp. The camp teaches the youth Yoruba cultures through many workshops / sessions.

This year I engaged the youths in making their own Indigo T-shirts with the assistance of several parents. Indigo is the oldest dye used for coloring fabrics. It is made from the plant beautiful blue leaves through a fermentation process.

Basting in INDIGO!

Tied resist techniques is used to create patterns. The dye vat is yellow and when fabric is removed it begins to turn blue as the oxygen reacts with the indigo!

"Art Play Day" With Artfest Sisters!

Monday was spent with two art sisters at the studio. We have been planning for a while to get together and just have fun in creating and finally after schedules coordination it happened and it was a great time had by all!
It dawned on me how I truly missed the feel of collaboration or creating with other mixed media artists. Sharing ideas, encouraging each other and working on resolving issues were the highlights of our play day.

Angelica was the trade queen creating her wonderful trades for the upcoming "Art Unraveled" in Arizona.

How I wished I could go with them, but work gets in the way!

It took a while for me to get settled into what type of play I want...I guess I was too excited having my art sisters around. I finally decided to have Jesse Reno inspired finger painting to get loose and just take in the fun part of creating!

The beauty of Stainless Metalsmithing!

On our recent vacation, we caught a computer virus and put me out of commission in updates but it has also allowed me to play more in the studio! I am very exited on the results I am getting with working and manipulating steel!!!
Working with stainless steel is different from copper. It is more tough in cutting and some elbow grease is needed for pounding designs on them, but the results are awesome...

This piece is layered with copper/brass/steel with hand lettered "Peace Comes From Within"

This next piece is just pure steel with hand lettering.

Incorporating found object and vintage piece was the focus of this next piece. The steel heart piece is layered with brass found object. The chain is a combination of pearl, shells, brass chain and copper.

The earrings are light weight layered with copper, steel, domed brass, with hand lettering.

I would love to hear your comments on these pieces.

The studio design is still underway with 60% completion and the urge to play in it has nagging me!

So last night I was busy in my jewelry studio and started to play with some pearls and here is the first creation! It is a combination of pearl and sterling silver.

I played more with different combination...

This white dangling with swirl piece is made with glass bead and copper wire!

Casa de la Cultura Ensenada Trip

On June 25th, I embarked on three days visit of Cultural exchange to Ensenada with the Riverside Community Art Association (RCAA) organized by Mark Schooley, Director of RCAA. Ensenada is the sister city to city of Riverside and RCAA has been doing art exchange for few years! RCAA collects art supplies and books for the children of Ensenada. Also organize art exhibit exchanges with artists from both cities.
This was my first visit to Ensenada and the trip brought back a lot of back home memories. There were things I could relate to...the outside cantina, the street vendors, the fish market, the general little stores and the pharmacies.

Upon check-in we headed to the marina and have lunch at the cantina, then headed to Riviera Cultural Center and Gardens, Jody, drove up with the books and we unloaded the books for the library at the center. We were then given the tour of the center with its rich history. Great art, motifs, ironwork and lots of character!

We then headed to the Contemporary Museum with great exhibit on "Rostros Y Tradiciones". This exhibit showcase some Latina masters. There was a piece that caught my attention by Frida Kahlo...it was not her typical style and the color palate was in pastel hues. There was a pale doll in the bottom of the piece that has some reference to her style.

The next day was spent painting at the beautiful Cultural Center. We all made our location selection and let the painting begins. I had few minor setbacks...the paper I brought was old and I forgot some key color paint. Nonetheless, I was determined to make a go if it and manage to bring the piece back to decent...not a master piece. My second piece need touch-ups for completion!
After Painting we went back to the museum to view the new exhibit that just opened with a reception the day before. The exhibit title is Ensenada Hoy! The exhibit showcase artist of the region over the last two decades! Very outstanding work...check out the album I created!

Food overall was outstanding...on our first evening I ordered whole bass in Veracruz sauce and boy did I get one bigggggggggggggg fish!

Second night we were all happy after region wine tasting, except for Terry she was happy with margaritas!
Trip back home was longggggggggggggg due to border check-point. My advise to anyone is to get off at the last exit and empty your bladder!!! Here is my Ensenada trip photo album...enjoy!!!

I Celebrate My Birthday!

Another milestone...celebrated my birthday with my family at a french restaurant! It was a fun evening evening and I enjoyed sweet crape...very sinful!!!

STUDIO REDESIGN- THE DEMOLITION OF PRINTMAKING DESK!

Recently I embarked on re-designing my studio to make it more functional. It is a daunting task and very tedious! I figure patience and chunking of tasks will get me thru. I am very excited and can not wait to see the end result.

The first task is to demolished my old printmaking table and set up my new flat files. Here my nephew learning the ropes while helping with the demolition Before any demolition, stuff had to be moved out of the way.
Once table is demolished, then it now time for the flat files setup on their base that my hubby made! Will keep you posted!

ARTFEST PART 4- SHOW & TELL

This post is late but it is... better late than never!
To put things in full gear...I headed to the beach to catch the sunrise and may get lucky for some beach glass. I missed the sunrise and not much luck with beach glass...tide still high, but met Barbara and discovered we are both taking Susan's class later!
Even though all my classes have been great so far, I would say the expression saving the best for last was fitting for this class. My last workshop at artfest with Susan L Kazmer was very INSPIRATIONAL...and that inspiration has kept me in the studio since return from artfest! She is very funny and great teacher. Class was packed with tons of information on metalworking...it was overload but allowed me to process some of the techniques I have been wanting to explore but too afraid to try out. She has unleashed in me that fire and passion for metal!!!

By the end of class I had one piece done, my #7 pendant and the multi-layered colored metal was partially done and wanting to do more...which I did after artfest!

After workshop, we went to checkout the old Fort and afterward met up with Andria and her mom for good old Mexican food!

The evening event is the gran-daddy of the whole retreat...this is "Show and Tell", the opportunity to see all the wonderful creations from the different workshops. I hope you enjoy them. CLICK HERE FOR SHOW TELL PICTURES!

ARTFEST PART 3

First, I would like to give a shout-out to Melissa Manley for her mentioning of my blog on her page...thanks, it was a pleasant surprise when I stopped by her blog to admire her work.

My second workshop was with Free spirit Jesse Reno...What an experience in being creative and letting go of your inhibitions with paint brushes. His whole concept is to play and play well with your fingers and that was exactly what I did. I felt great with a sense of being in my own elements...Just watching is demo takes you to places you might have being holding back and just allow you to access the inner spirits withing you!!!

I have been trying for so long to take his workshop and was very happy that I did. I look forward to next year taking his classes again. This workshop also reminded me of the essence of "play" with my students and we meet state standards! Here are the pieces done in his workshop...enjoy!

The evening activity was Artists Marketplace and that is buying frenzy...everyone trying to get in for the first choice of their favorite artist. I had my books in tote for signing by the artists. This year I had books by Patricia Saggebrush, Stephenie Lee, Traci Bautista, Tracie Lyn Huskamp, 1000 journals with many artists, and picked up two more books by Susan L Kazmer and Bee Shay. I had all my books signed..Wohooooo

After the marketplace...we hosted a get together at our house with Amanda giving soldering gun demo and allowing us to make a charm. Amanda, you are so generous with your supplies and sharing of knowledge...I am glad to be your friend!

It was an enjoyable evening and we had visit from Alex, Nikki, Andria, Andria's mom, Lisa, Tally, and our two housemates, Donna and Jody.

The past few weeks have been total dedication that I get studio time to play...and play is what I have been doing! The energy and idea bags is so full! I just love this energy and wish I for more time to play!!!

I have been experimenting more with building layers and the results keep opening up more doors of ideas. Here are some of the new creations. So whatcha you think? Appreciate your comments.

ARTFEST 2010 PART 2

As promised here is part 2 of my Artfest journey...I ahave been busy in the studio and making a commitment to start applying all myArtfest inspirations...I will post pics soon of the outcome!

After exploration came the task of cheking in, find our assigned house and then get ready for the trade frenzy! Lest to say Amanda and I had a little mixed up with our room assignments with our housemates from Canada, but Teesha clarified and straightened things out.

We headed to the commons for the highlight of the evening..TRADING! It was a total frenzy alright!. Got a lot of kool trades in exchange for my fiber trade. This year I traded my exotic African fibers which was well received last year, so I brought more this year. Once we got back to the house I could barely wait to see my trades closeup but had to wait till we get back from the art store. This gem in this little quaint town has big city setup in terms of their art supply inventory and one must not forget the outstanding hospitality they afford the artists. Johanna and the crew, you gals ROCKS!

Dinner was homemade since we opted out of meals...we had all the cooking ammenities and wanted to control over eating which we did last year! We got our stuff ready for next day workshop and the high of what lies ahead was very hard to contain.

Amanda, Alex and I were in the Encaustic workshop with Patricia Saggebrush. Lots of information, my first time working with wax paints ...very cool to see the depth you can achieve with the medium. Patrica was a wonderful instructor and took us on long walk to hunt for beach glass but the tide was too high! I think what I am taking away from this workshop is incorporating the wax medium only with my painting. I picked up a can of the wax and will soon be playing with it! I will keep you posted!

The agenda for the evening was packed, The "Iron Chef Artist", Bon Fire & Journaling at the Beach House" and Jesse Renno Band performance at the Underground...so many to choose from, this is when I which I could clone thyself to be at all three places...had to settled for the Iron Chef and Bonfire! I was glad I saw the instructors under pressure of creating an art with whatever was in their bag! The good news...I won this piece created by Mary Stanley..WoHOOOOOOOOOO!

The bonfire/journaling was great time spent with friends and some new ones...not much journaling for me...writing is just not my thing, but I am trying to break into that mode...making progress as you can see I am writing this post...hahaha. Here the girls are ready for journaling and I am ready for socializing! Oh..Nikki is ready to create with her new body art adornment!

Since I was not doing any journaling...I joined Lisa, Rice and Tally for good conversation and sillyness!

Artfest Inspired!

As I was sorting through my trades and editing my picture, I also have this strong creativity thirst! I had to fight with every types of urges luring me from the studio. I must say it was very difficult and almost had a melt down yesterday as I was feeling the sense time slipping away from me. I managed to work on two new pieces inspired from Artfest workshop with Susan Kasmer. My goal was to incorporate the layering process and it was challenging but worked it out. I am also tickled in my first ever ring. I must say I "heart" my ring...had better outcome I think than the necklace...well offer you insight please!!!

The ring consist of hammered and patina cooper, aluminum, vintage style button and pearl.

Artfest 2010

This March I journeyed to Port Townsend for my second Artfest and what a wonderful experience all over again. Met up with old friends I made last year and made some new ones. I was blown away with the classes I had and truly enjoyed everyone of them, learning new techniques to add to my art! I will be posting accounts of my classes and other activities of this extended retreat!

This year we arrived a day early so that we could explore the quaint town of Port Townsend.
Alex arrived first from France, then me and finally Amanda from Missouri! We picked up the car and headed to Port Townsend, a two hours drive. This year we opted to explore the non ferry route. It took about the same time and I must tell you it is true what they say about cop laying low, because we got pulled over but lucky lucky he let us off the hook! I knew it was a sign of good things to happen!

We got to town late evening and checked into our Water Street hotel, an old historical building. Late night bayou soup and then retired for the night.

Next morning was all about exploring the town...and explore we did after delicious breakfast. After few hours of exploration we started to observe the invasion of artfesters. Everywhere we go we spotted artfesters both old and new ones. There are special qualities that defines artfesters which might not be obvious to non-festers.

Artfest Day 2

Our first day of workshop and I was set to take the book binding class "Cosmic Coptic" taught by Pam Sussman. This is my first attempt in doing book binding and started out challenging but I took my time and Pam was very patient and helpful in making sure my table got it right.

By the end of the workshop, I manged to finish my book and was pleased with it! After class, I needed to pick up my clayboard from Akmai art store so, I enlisted Amanda to ride with me to town. Wow, I was blown away by this store in middle of a small town with big city inventory. They carried everything I would have to say and customer service was top notched!

We stopped by a small coop store and so many organic selections, I was tempted to get some wine, could not make up my mind so I left without any!

After dinner, Michelle and Jessica joined us and we headed to the theater for artists panel discussion. There were three groups and the married couple panel were hilarious. After the panel discussion it was down to the beach for "BON FIRE" and "JOURNAL FEST" and we had so much fun hanging out and reading our journal. Mine was no where done...I am still struggling with this journal thingy! By the time we left the beach we were all ready for siesta, but I heard voices in dorn and came upon Sonya's group with card action going on and Kristine table of jewelry treasure set up for anyone who wants to make a jewelry. I choose a pendant with egg motif with number 22 on it, which represent my birthday.

Artfest Day 1

After the long driving from Seattle airport with great company(Amanda, Jo and Alexandria) we settled in to our dorms and then head down to the commons where trading frenzy was taken place. I soon got caught up in the frenzy and started to trade my fiber and ATC. We had dinner and Jo led us to pavilion for the "Artists Welcome" address.
The teachers introduced themselves and offer few words of advice in letting our creativity run wild for the weekend! I left the pavilion feet frozen but fully inspired for the next day!

ARTFEST REFLECTION

Last week April 1st - 5th, I attended ARTFEST in Port Townsend, a creativity RETREAT among artist FRIENDS! It was five days of intense laughter, loads of learning and GOOD OL' FUNNNN! As I unwind from post artfest, there is so much to, go over my class notes, get more supplies, trades, journal which I really need to do and jump into creating. My first post in 2009 and hope is one of many to come! This holiday break was a busy one as I worked on my website. It was tedious and rewarding to finally have the opportunity to get things off the ground.

After many months of research for the best hosting company at affordable price and ease of usage, I settled to go with Big Black Bag Company and I had a week to test drive and set up the site. So many materials to gather and photo editing, taking pictures, classifying and layout. So, much to navigate!!!

I have added pictures to all areas of portfolio. I hope you take a moment to check out the galleries.

One of my 2009 goals is to blog once a week. It seems doable, I hope!

"Dominick Frascella Show"

I got a call few days ago about receiving award at the Corona Art Association Dominick Frascella Show I entered. She would not tell me what the award was and she hoped that I made to the reception.

Well, tonight was the reception and I won Honorable Mention for my Collagraph print of an African Mask. It was an honor to be recognized and it just gives you the encouragement to keep art trucking

Art For Heaven's Sake

This past weekend I exhibited at Redlands Art for Heaven's Sake along with over fifty other artists in various media. AFHS is one of the premier show in Inland Empire and it was an enjoyable weekend with great weather. Also, this was the venue for launching my "Sacred Goddess" mixed media jewelry and 2 dimensional art. It was well received and got lots of encouraging comments. I felt humbled since this series came about from my dreams and tribute to my late mom. I have so many ideas and designs floating and waiting anxiously to make themselves known, but first I need to work in getting my blog and hopefully my website running. As you can see it has been a while since I set up the blog with no action. Well, I am all jazzed up and I hope you all come back often to see updates!
