It has been an insane full past week in a good way. It has been non stop of intense learning in two wonderful workshops , my special birthday treat.

engraving with chasing tool! |
The first part starts with metal week workshop in
Idyllwild Summer Arts Program. An intense five days workshop with the talented and funny teacher Charity Hall.

tube setting with engraved embossing |
The workshop is geared towards learning about texturing metal surfaces using chasing tools and other stamping tools.
|
micro foldfolming |
It also covered tube setting, flush setting and step setting, which kicked my butt.
I got the hang of the tube setting and of all the three setting it was the one I would considered a bit successful.

In my flush setting design, I over compensated the drilling for two of the stones. Now the step setting is another beast, got stuck on this for two days and made two attempts before some resolutions. Need to practice this more!

My first pin back |
In addition to learning, had loads of fun meeting other metalsmiths and participating in all the extra activities such as studios crossover, gallery night, potluck fundraising and last day show and tell.
With all these fun was the headache of car trouble, dead battery, due to over extended headlight delayed shot off. Thanks to our wonderful studio assistant Gina who saved my butt by giving me a jump and letting me borrow her jumper cable. Also thank you classmate Paul for giving me the second jump.

The second phase of my creativity week shifted the very next day after Idyllwild to Art Box in Upland to take "Building Unique Surfaces with Water-media" with outstanding artist, Gerald Brommer.

It was a three day workshop of immense collaging to build up texture and then build up the surfaces with water-media.
